Minneap olis Minn Sept 26 Jacob Brown a tramp confessed to a murder eight years ago in Illinois. He claimed he killed a man in a boxcar with a coupling pin and fled. Brown says convict Gray in Chester Ill was the real victim and hopes to clear him by his confession.
Professor A K Spence of Fisk University Nashville and his wife daughter and R C Edmondson of the war department escape a deadly fall when their vehicle slides off a steep Fort Myer road after a horse is stung by a yellow jacket. The party suffers serious injuries to Prof Spence including facial bones crushed and skull fracture. Mrs Spence is in pain though not fatal, Miss Spence and Edmondson escape with minor injuries.
The Baltimore and Ohio accommodation train derailed when a switch near Linden two miles from Prrrssceen opened at 45 last night. Fireman Frank Miller was fatally injured, engineer Tom Burton badly scalded, and several passengers shaken. The fast Baltimore express passed the switch ten minutes earlier. authorities suspect malicious intent.
The Mississippi Weather Service reports a near uninterrupted drought with local rain in the south and strong winds damaging crops. Cotton picking is favorable though some fall crops suffer, with water scarce for stock. In Tennessee, Jordon embezzled county funds totaling 2,700 and 2,900, while Phil Patterson cites 271 in shortage. Jordon had links to a Memphis firm.
