Terrific Hailstorm Wipes Out Texas Wheat Belt

A damaging hailstorm swept the southwest part of the county near Gainesville on May 18, wiping out about 25 000 acres of wheat and destroying corn hay oats and cotton. Farmers report losses up to 22000 dollars per farm with many reporting 100 acres of wheat or more. The storm lasted five minutes with six inch hail and left fields unharvestable. Parts of Denton and Montague counties also reported losses, with crop damage estimated at ten thousand dollars.
