Victory Bond Drive Over Subscribed in Lafayette County

The Victory Bond campaign closed with Lafayette County amid high over subscription and mail-in support. The Eighth Federal Reserve District led the nation in meeting quotas, with Mississippi ranking fourth as the campaign ends. Local officials thank residents and soldiers returning from France for their help and support.

Oxford Girls Defeat Water Valley in Gym Thriller

The Oxford girls crushed Water Valley 41 to 5 at University Gymnasium in a second game of the season. Star Bessie Metts, nearly six feet, led with strong jumping while Elsie Graham battled through an early injury. Return game at Water Valley followed with Oxford again prevailing as forwards Lillian Gamble led a speedy, hard fought effort.

Opera House Song Service Sets June 8 Afternoon

There will be a song service at the opera house on the second Sunday in June the 8th starting at 2 30. Class singing solos duets and quartets will be rendered by well trained voices. The class that won highest honors last year will attend along with other splendid classes. Everyone is invited to join in this song service.

Citizens face three days without usable water with only a few families in the sout h part able to obtain domestic supply. No Street and north side residents lack water as officials warn of ongoing shortages, rising costs, and potential insurance cancellations amid epidemic fears.

A large crowd gathered for a homecoming service in Oxford as Rev Mitchell returns after twenty seven years to assume the local pastorate at the Presbyterian church. Speakers Rev Rowland Leavell Rev Woollard and Rev Christian offered remarks and a Rowland quartette sang a special song. Mrs Lawhorn hosted a birthday party for her daughter Miss Dala Lawhorn.
