United States Liberty Bonds Sell Strong Amid War Debt Signals

A 1900 2 percent bond due 1930 sold as high as 109 7 8 while a 10 year Liberty loan yielded up to 12 percent. The 1925 loan issued in 1895 and 1896 carried 4 percent and reached 139 percent. The Pan-Americans due 1961 sold up to 103 percent, showing bonds rise when peace returns. Also ads for real estate, Duroc pigs, timber work, homer pigeons.

Lieutenant Pete Allen Honored by Oxford Allies

Lieutenant Paul F. Allen of the 28th Infantry Americian Expeditionary Forces in France was lauded during a three day visit at Oxford. A former Ole Miss student nicknamed Pete, he trained in trench warfare at Camp Gordon after serving with Black Peshing’s old regiment in France before returning home to instruct future troops.

Lafayette farmers ship 696 hogs to Oxford on co operative plan

On April 19, 198 farmers in Lafayette County sold 696 hogs to Oxford under a cooperative plan led by County Agent Olson. The 18 car shipment yielded $14,441.57 after expenses, with grades from No 1 to No 7 paying from 16.40 to 13.25 per hundred pounds. The year totals show steady growth in hog shipments and farmer returns as Lafayette County expands its hog industry.
