Tragedy at Temple as posse battle ends in deaths

At Temple Mississippi sixteen miles north, a fatal shootout followed a sheriff’s bid to arrest two Smith brothers accused in a cotton theft. Milton Smith was killed and S. J. Smith wounded as a posse fired on them. Milton returned fire before being shot. The case follows earlier threats and a tense countywide pursuit.
