The jury found Capt H W Howgate guilty on two indictments one for forgery and one for falsifying official accounts with a mercy recommendation. Each offense carries a penalty from one to ten years in the penitentiary.
Lawyer PF P Creed was shot by Daniel T Macs proprietor of a cider press in Mead South Resp Ind on June 2 and probably fatally injured. Macs fired three shots into Creed's body during an argument over finances at the cider mill. Macs, under creditor pressure, acted in desperation.
The Standard Oil Co raised oil prices again, lifting North Lima to 79 cents, South Lima to 71 cents, and Indiana to 64 cents per barrel. Eastern oil also rose with Ticon at $1.60, Pennsylvania $1.60, Barnesville $1.50, Carning $1.45, and Newcastle $1.35. This marks a second advance this week amid a booming market.
Washington June 22. Gen Green Clay Smith fell ill three weeks ago from a carbuncle on the neck base of the brain. Dr Bayne operated recently providing temporary relief but his condition has worsened and he is now very low with intermittent consciousness.

In Puuwost New York at 10:15 a.m. a Harlem railroad agent named Kroose killed his father-in-law George Jacobi by shooting him in the back of the head then committed suicide by a gunshot to the head. Jacobi was 62 and Kroose about 40. The motive is unknown as both men were on friendly terms. A relief agent was due on the train and found both dead at the desk. Kroose had been discharged but there were no missing accounts. Kroose leaves a wife and four children aged 18, 12 and two younger.
In Kiveswoon on June 22 lightning struck an electric battery wiring causing a blast at Backhors stone quarry. Dolph McViecker is fatally wounded while Kinger is badly shocked but to recover. A large quantity of dynamite exploded, wrecking buildings and stunning people for miles.
