Run Down by Train Claims Life of Albert Metts in Holly Springs
Albert W. Metts of Oxford Miss dies after being struck by an Illinois Central freight near the depot in Holly Springs. The 37 year old local detective and insurance agent sustained a crushed left leg, was taken to a sanitarium and had the limb amputated, dying on the operating table after an anesthetic. Metts described the sequence of events, noting he stepped from the Illinois Central track to the Frisco track as the approaching train passed, but was struck by a box car pushed by the engine.
