In a tense session the Senate approved the conference report on the tariff bill after spirited debate over restrictions on foreign tobacco sales and wartime prisoner rescues. A catastrophic blaze at the Casino wineer theater in Paducah, Kentucky, Friday night during a performance of To the Streets of New York caused panic and heavy injuries. Fire exploded from a stage lamp as hot wires and explosive stage effects ignited tar paper roof, trapping about 600 patrons mainly women and children. At least fifty people were burned and over one hundred trampled in the crush to escape. Manager Bourne and wife Col Rowland and wife among the seriously burned. doctors worked for hours while several notable injuries were reported from Yazoo Mississippi and other areas.
President McKinley sent a message to Congress on July 24, 1907 proposing a special commission to study monetary affairs and currency reform. He urged early action to simplify the currency system, stabilize values, and report by November for possible legislative changes affecting the nation’s banking framework.
Reverend Malcom M. Dana died at his Berokiya home after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn about 63 years ago, he graduated from Amherst in 1550 and Union Theological Seminary in 1559. He pastored in Connecticut, led Plymouth Congregational Church in St. Paul, helped establish six branches, served Minnesota committees, and was a founder and president of Minnesota Congregational Club.

News arrives from Curcaco that Charles A. Ketchum known as Kaistoo and Dick Wilson died in the Michigan City penitentiary when a blow vessel burst. Ketchum was a noted forger and confidence man in Curcaco.

A Copenhagen dispatch debunks a claim that a carrier pigeon near Tromsoe island bore North Pole passed 15. Andre’s pigeons marked Andree and Aftonblalet were tracked with numbers. 30 birds escaped during wintering in Tromso.
A miner from Alaska reports that about 200 Stick Indians plan to move toward the coast near Ch inlet to haul freight across the divide and raft it along rivers to mining regions. The Chilkat tribe warned against such inland tribes entering coastal industries, signaling possible conflict if carried out.

About 1,000 attendees enjoyed a tree shade dinner at Eagle Spring and figs are praised for winter preservation and hardiness.
