A lightning bolt struck the corner of Will Millner's house four miles south of Oxford, killing the farmer instantly. Millner, about 40, described as a good man, was alone in the home at the time and the strike damaged the building.

Dr R B Gunter corresponding secretary of the Baptist State Convention Jackson Mississippi will preach at the Oxford Baptist church Sunday morning July 31 and at the town union service that night. He is described as a young man with pleasing address and brilliant attainments and is expected to benefit all who hear him.

On Sunday afternoon Rev. Elijah Ligon and four sons clashed with Cooper after Tom Ligon confronted him over a remark about a young colored girl. Cooper drew a pistol but the preacher intervened, a scuffle ensued, and charges were filed. At trial Justice Shinault fined Cooper 25 dollars and cost. Tom Ligon 10 dollars and cost. Bus Ligon 25 dollars and cost. Elijah 10 dollars and cost. Manuel 5 dollars and cost. Walker Ligon 5 dollars and cost. None were represented by counsel. all farmers near town. The arrests followed Monday.
On Friday July 8 the death angel visited the home of Dr and Mrs Snodgrass and took their only child Mary Alma. She was 212 years old.

Fred Long spoke. next convention to be at Camp Ground. Officers elected include Harry Bryan president and Mrs Brooks Patton secretary. various vice presidents and division leaders were named.
One of the most beautiful weddings was held Monday July 18 at nine o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Van Hiler. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. J A Christian with Miss Florrie Friedman at the piano and Miss Winnie Smith as matron of honor. The bride wore blue tricotine and carried Russell roses. Mr. Domengeaux, connected with a Belzoni business, will reside in Belzoni with relatives after August 1.
