Lafayette County veterans urged to form local American Legion post

A 1919 notice calls Lafayette County men who served in World War I to assemble at Oxford courthouse on Monday July 28 at 11 a.m. for organizing a local American Legion post. The nonpartisan civilian group aims to uphold US Constitution, promote law and democracy, and foster 100 percent Americanism with a minimum 15 members.

Soldiers to Vote in Near Democratic Primary

Jackson Mississippi July 17 Secretary Joseph KR Norwood of the Democratic state executive committee urges discharged soldiers to carry their discharge certificates to the polls on August 5 to prove voting rights. The move aims to prevent soldier vote controversies and may enable 6 000 to 8 000 veterans to participate despite registration or poll tax issues. The first primary results canvass will follow July 28 with county committees sending returns to the secretary of state.
