Levee duties and regional appointments in Mississippi

The Levee Board met at Greenville to adjust accounts with high water costs projected at at least 125000. Gov. Storr appointed R. W. Williamson of Greenwood as Circuit Judge for the Delta District, replacing George Winston. Vicksburg aims to build a cotton factory with funding from local and New Orleans capital. The State Alliance meets August 5 at Starkville, replacing the usual August meeting. A Mississippi Presbytery installed Rev. H. H. Brownlee at Port Gibson and licensed Walter L. Stewart from Natches. Lupton Tom, last Choctaw on the Tombigbee fringe, has died after a life marked by fishing and hardship.

Trial Trip of the Philadelphia Goes Well

The Philadelphia’s trial trip yesterday reportedly highly successful with speed excelling expectations. Captain Hen ry Erbin, president of the trial board, telegraphed Secretary Tracey that the shipyard repairs are complete and the vessel has returned. The Navy Department awaits official confirmation of the positive brief dispatch.
