Fred Brokaw, son of Isaac V. Brokaw, drowned at Elberon while attempting to rescue Mrs Herr’s servants after they were dragged beyond depth. Miss Annie Donohue, Aggie Birsch, and Julia Torpio were swimming. Miss Donohue and Miss Torpio saved, Miss Birsch drowned. Dr Ferris of Philadelphia aided, was rescued. Brokaw’s death follows a dramatic rescue and grieving spectators.
The funeral for Joseph E. McDonald was held from the family residence with a noon to six oclock viewing. Local leaders including Hendricks and Clereland bar associations, and city state officials attended a procession of forty vehicles. Notables from beyond Indianapolis included Jax A McDonald and fem W McDonald of Attea, Dee Pratt of Macecheek, W Shepherd of Hamilton, and Frank Farnsworth of Washington. Floral tributes were profuse and eulogies delivered by two house divines.

A fierce affray in Lovdsvinns Kentucky at about six o clock Thursday left Jane 25 and a young woman observer describing a love triangle. Seward and Alsop confronted Sidney Smith on Watson lawn and fired as Smith returned fire. Smith was wounded in the neck and the three men tangled in a pistol exchange with curdling tense. In a separate race at Washington Park jockey Jocky V Britton was badly hurt when Miss Dixie stumbled and pitched him from John E Pepper's filly Miss Disie in a field of twelve.
John Smith, long feared in Meortes, was shot and captured after a cabin standoff. Officers plan to bring him and his wife to Morton for a hearing once able, amid reports of prior violence against the woman.
