Conductor W.iddeson suffered internal injuries. another worker was also harmed. The wreck left five loaded cars derailed and total collapse of the cars. A separate Erie branch crash near Washingtonville and Mooning Grove killed one and seriously wounded another as about fifty empty cars were struck by a following train.
Five Thessand Detter wed in New York as jewelry worth 35000 is seized in a smuggling case. Captain Wim Rittig of the Ward Line steamer Sara Teague and passenger Isaac Lamon were held on charges after jewelry was found at Rittig’s home and not listed on the ship’s manifest. Lamon had asked the captain to guard the jewels while he sought bankers before transferring them toward Amsterdam. The pair maintained the jewelry was not meant for sale.
At Morrellville Pennsylvania Edward Gallagher seventeen Michael Gallagher fifteen and Mrs Kate Storkhouse twenty five were killed by a west bound Pennsylvania Railroad train after stepping onto a side track to let the line pass. The three bodies will be buried tomorrow. Local fatalities on the railroad since the flood are noted as remarkable due to blocked avenues of travel forcing pedestrians onto tracks and bridges.
Dominick Libby, a New York City restaurant keeper, was robbed near his Brick Church home in Newark after arriving by train. He was struck with a sand bag, knocked against a fence, and relieved of his watch and chain by three men who trailed him from Murray Street.
Naval experts confirm earlier criticisms of the 110 ton guns aboard the 10,400 ton Benbow. The procurement is attacked as wasteful, dampening the enthusiasm of supporters who pushed the costly construction.
