Lala Richardson Hartfield, daughter of John Richardson of Sumrall, traveled 30 miles to Purvis to surrender and explain’s her claim she acted to protect herself and her mother. Richardson allegedly abused the family. Hartfield fired a shotgun, first in fright, then fatally, wounding him in the stomach.
