William H Batt a divorce lawyer appeared at Jefferson Market Court with Detective Von Gerichten and was remanded for examination on a second degree forgery charge. William Hughes, another divorce lawyer arrested Wednesday for obtaining a fraudulent divorce for ex Mayor Pendleton of Fort Worth, Texas, accompanied the detective and attempted to offer a statement against Hartner but was not permitted.
A miner’s lamp exploded at United Coke works of H C Frick & Co near Mount Pleasant causing a mine fire and destruction of hay, feed, and top-shaft buildings. No lives lost though property damage is heavy. One hundred twenty miners were at work. Mine Master West warned and led a safe exit, later fire containment saved many.
