A Tangier dispatch reports Moorish pretender Bu Hamara captured and held by Riata tribesmen who offer him for sale to the sultan.
Italian anarchist Gen Baro Rubino faced a Brussels court on the November 15 kingroom shooting charge. He proclaimed anarchy with exultation as crowds watched. He said he planned to kill Italy's monarch but lacked funds and left the army due to persecution.

Five men Joseph Becker William Burke John Schneider Adam Herzog and Michael Ambrose died while two others M Straus Beiser and Charles Feigel were injured in the collapse of a brick building at Williams Street and Fillmore Avenue in Buffalo on a razing job prior to new construction. Several others are reported injured.
Hardie Henderson, once a pitcher for the Baltimore club over twenty years ago, was instantly killed in Philadelphia at Thirtieth and Market streets when he attempted to cross a west bound trolley track after alighting from an east bound car. He had been umpiring in the National League recently.
Mrs. Howard Townsend Martin wife of a younger brother of Bradley Martin and daughter of William V Thompson of St. Louis died in Florence Italy on February 7. The report notes her maiden name Camilla Thompson and her parents reside in New York. In Arizona five Cananea Copper Co smelters shut down due to a strike on the narrow gauge railroad carrying ore to the smelters.
A Rhodes Scholarships conference in Kansas City with Dr Gen R Parkin of Toronto and university presidents from Texas Oklahoma Arkansas Missouri and Washington University outlines a method to award free Oxford studies. Each state or territory will appoint two to four education leaders to form a selection committee chaired by the state university president. The Oxford appointment for 1904 will send one man per state or territory under the Cecil Rhodes will.
In St Louis on February 7 8000 trainmen and conductors faced a threatened strike on four major southwest railroads the Missouri Kansas & Texas Missouri Pacific Frisco and Cotton Belt. A 15 percent freight and 12 percent passenger wage rise was accepted by the MK&T committee and union leaders halting the walkout. Other lines are expected to follow with similar settlements.
W. F. Wernse president of Wernse Bond & Stock Co was sentenced to a year in jail and fined 500 in federal court. G W Spencer also received the same sentence. E A Wernse and Harry Wernse were fined 500 each and jailed until payment. H C Topping and G C Wharton faced 500 fines.
In Carbondale Illinois Silas Farmer city marshal of De Soto and his son Lawrence age 23 were wounded in a street duel at 735 PM Thursday. The son is probably fatally hurt while the father an exemplary officer is seriously injured after weeks of tension over the son’s drinking.
Rose and Bert Hazel Bob Lymen and Hiram Contz four schoolboys are under arrest for placing dynamite in a stove at Phipps schoolhouse north of Metropolis The motive was described as revenge and the explosive from a nearby mine was found just before an explosion could occur risking the lives of forty children
In Omaha three hundred printers, press feeders and press men went back to work after a three day strike. Demands of pressmen and feeders were granted and printers demands to be settled by arbitration. In Berlin the total cost of Germanys China expedition reaches 56.25 million dollars with an estimated 5.5 million more needed.
In Poplar Bluff Missouri on February 1 Steve Clark a white man and Will Gatlin a black man were hanged for murder and robbery respectively. Clark was convicted for the murder of his betrothed in June 1901 and Gatlin killed a black man in September 1901.
Salt Lake City report says former United States Senator Frank J. Cannon, operated on for appendicitis Wednesday, remains in very serious condition with poor chances of recovery.

The Beauvoir Confederate home was purchased in Jackson last week with the transfer of Jefferson Davis’ historic home to the Mississippi division of Sons of Veterans. Mrs. A. M. C. Kimbrough of Greenwood, representing Mrs. Davis, delivered the deed. Kimbrough handed the deed to the Sons, receiving $8,000 in cash and granting a time extension for the remaining $2,000. The committee plans to aggressively collect the $2,000 balance and begin collection efforts immediately.
