The Oxford Mississippi City Council approves an ordinance to issue and sell 3500 in bonds to finance construction and equipment for a deep water well connected to the city water plant. Bonds dated March 1 1919 mature in five years with 6 percent annual interest payable semi annually. Mayor Beanland and Commissioners Lawshee and Farr vote yea.
Notice announces the election in Oxford on March 3 1919 to submit the above ordinance to qualified electors for ratification or rejection. City Clerk J H Lawshee signs the notice on January 29 1919.
The ordinance fixes May or E. D. Beanland's salary at 50 dollars per month while J. H. Lawshee and J. S. Farr receive 100 and 55 dollars monthly respectively. The measure was read, adopted by section and as a whole, with votes of beanland furr and lawshee in favor and no oppositions.
City of Oxford passes an ordinance extending state crime and misdemeanor definitions to acts within its corporate limits. The measure, approved January 9 1919 by Major F D Beanland and J H Lawshee with J S Parr voting yes, takes effect upon adoption.
The Lafayette County Mississippi Clerk invites sealed bids by March 4 1919 for printing contracts under Chapter 155 of 1916 in classes TM to 6 inclusive. Bidders must specify price per class, paper quality and weight. The Board may accept separate or combined bids and reserves right to reject any or all bids.
Sealed bids for scraping and cleaning the Court House and Jail roofs and painting the same are invited. County supplies paint and brushes. board may reject any or all bids and award to the lowest responsible bidder. successful bidder must execute a bond for faithful performance. February 6 1919. Tax Assessor B. K. Collins urges landowners to list cultivated land wild land timber fields and improvements separately for the yearly assessment due by June first. The notice requests careful attention as deputies may call to complete the assessing work with no delays due to limited time. February 6-13.
The Mt Zion community reports visits by A F Alloway and families, Irene Walker teaching at Dillard School, and new residents Guy Cook and family moving into the old Bailey home. A girls basketball game saw Mt Zion beat Hopewell 27 to 9, with referee Andrew Mitchell Jr. from Woodleigh, and Dr Gunn to preach at the Episcopal church. The Leader announces a ten day sale starting Saturday.
This Thursday around 2 pm U.S. Marshal Vance and City Marshal J B roamed North street and fought after an insult. Roach allegedly challenged Vance and was struck, then punched in the face before bystanders intervened to end the incident.
The report lists U S Internal Revenue licenses issued to Lafayette County in the six months ending December 31 1918 and the six months ending January 1 1919. Sheriff H M Sneed of Oxford Mississippi certifies the record as complete and correct and the document is sworn before J B Mosley notary public on January 1 1919.
Petition to the Mississippi Pardoning Board requests a pardon for Andrew Johnson convicted of obtaining property under false pretenses in Lafayette County in 1917. It argues Johnson received little benefit, the property went to another, and that he has been amply punished.
William Preece a miner of Putte Montana describes chronic stomach pain heartburn and undigested food with meals. After taking Tanlac he reports improved digestion appetite and daily work capacity. Tanlac sold in Oxford by Rewland Drug Co.
The petitioners request a pardon for Lonnie Certain, sentenced to three years in the state penitentiary for forgery in Lafayette County court term September 1918. They argue the offense involved a merchant item valued under twenty dollars and contend hard labor has already served as adequate punishment. Signed by Birt Young with dates January 28 February 5 12 and 30.
State of Mississippi Lafayette County notices letters of administration granted January 31 1919 by the Chancery Court on the estate of H J Gardner deceased. All persons with claims must probate and register with the Lafayette County Chancery Clerk within one year or claims will be barred. Administratrix Mrs H Fe Gardner signs February 6 1919.

News reached the city this morning of the death of Mrs W S Whitehead at Delay. She was about 65 and survived by her husband and five children. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at Tula with relatives including C T Whitehead of Oxford and W A Whitehead of Tula.
