Washington reports the House Military Affairs Committee will back a bill to create a National Military Park on the Vicksburg battlefield. The Norfolk and Western Railroad Co. also intends to press charges for molesting the United States mail and express by stopping a train and robbing it.
The pardon of Hugh Dempsey, who had been serving a term in Riverside for involvement in poisoning during the Homestead strike, was received by Warden Wright on February 1.
