The British vessel Jason captained by McMillan from Calcutta to Boston ran ashore off the coast of Massachusetts during easterly gales. Only survivor Samuel J. Evans reports the voyage and crew losses, listing officers and many sailors from Ireland, Sweden, England, and the United States. Lifesaving efforts saved Evans but not most of the crew.
