Millsaps College Trustees Hear Endowment Reports

The Board of Trustees of Millsaps Methodist College met to review funds and endowment status. Secretary Watkins announced receipts totaling 7,215.75 with substantial uncollected pledges. treasurer Millsaps reported 24,976 on hand and 24,451 in total collections after expenses of the agent. A committee was named to review bonds offered by Millsaps supporters and plans to present a report to the conferences. An assessment of 1,000 for ministerial education was proposed to both conferences.

Murder at Roebuck Landing Shocks Rising Sun

Rising Sun dispatch reports the killing of Mr. Aron a prominent Roebuck Landing store owner. A game of craps led to a dispute with Joel Martin who fired fatally after being confronted by Aron and others. Martin was killed by a posse. Aron a German native and senior partner in Aron & Co. at Shepardtons and Roebuck owned plantations and was a Mason.
