Teixeira and his family, arriving from Spain, planned to invest about 6 million in the United States.
El Liberal argues there is no ground to fear U S recognition of Cuban insurgents as belligerents or interference in Cuba. It says Spain already grants broad liberties to Antillean colonies and the United States should act in its own interests and honor. A cabinet member notes McKinley’s pursuit of a swift end to the war may be unlikely. The Spanish government studies mobilizing Cuban volunteers and financing measures to be presented to the cortes.

Samuel G. Parkhill a 74 year old Brooklyn man married Annie Kirkland 50 years his junior on Thanksgiving evening. He shot himself in his Brooklyn home after family separated by age dispute, despondent in recent days, and found by relatives returning from church. Parkhill had been a ticket chopper on the Kings County elevated railway and formerly a superintendent of a city line.
