Lafayette County visitors praised by crews from Holly Springs

Jent crews arrived from Holly Springs on the Illinois Central train and a large Lafayette audience heard enthusiasm for the experts doctrine. The 23 crew members representing Oxford professions impressed all classes as they promoted farm improvements and dairy interests. Secretary Hughee’s folder and J. F. Judson of Oxford were noted among speakers and organizers.

Leading physician killed by lawyer in a tragic accident

Greenwood reports the accidental shooting of Mrs. Dernard Nesterville by her husband at their home near Woodville. The couple handled a revolver believed to be unloaded when it discharged, striking Mrs. Nesterville in the back of the head and killing her instantly. Investigator Johnston and Sheriff Taylor are involved as details develop.

Fire devastates New Albany with extensive property losses

A major blaze at New Albany caused widespread damage to shops and homes. Victims include Thomas Goodman druggist, Craig Brothers storehouse, and Norris Hardware. numerous businesses and offices suffered heavy water damage. Several individuals injured, with medical transport to Memphis for care and many insurers noted.

A Good Man Passes Away in Oxford Community

Marion Pipkin Bishop aged 65 died at 10 o clock Saturday morning at the home of R High tower, wife of the college president. Native of Panola County later moved to Lafayette County, he aided progress in school church and community life around Oxford. He was a trustee for the state penitentiary, a Methodist, Woodman and Mason. Burial with Masonic rites in Abbeville Cemetery Sunday.

Thanksgiving Day Gathering Notes 1915

The text recalls a small reunion at an Epis copal church with Rev Bruce of South Presbyterian giving a fine sermon. Only Water Valley and Chas. B Neilson attended, joined by John F. Brown for a bountiful supper and pleasant evening. Alma Sims is praised for attentiveness. Mrs Brown is thanked for courtesies. no members died that year. farewell greetings for 1915.

Mrs Mack Fills Dies in Mississippi Funeral in Oxford Area

Mr Stacey Farr visits Belew to see his children in Mississippi. Mrs Mack Fills died Thursday near Taylor Mississippi. She was buried Friday at Tubbs Cemetery about five miles from Oxford.

Red Cross Christmas Seals Ordered Jump to 200 Million

Frederick D. Hopkins reports from the Nurses Conference that the American Red Cross has raised its Christmas seals order from 125 million to 200 million with potential for more. Demand across states totals 180,000,600, and Mississippi’s initial 500,000 seals boosted to 1,000,000. The State Committee expects three seals sold per person amid plans for a State Tuberculosis Hospital next year.
