The Oxford Board of Trustees declares September 11 as the opening date for Oxford schools with students to report September 7 for classification and book lists. Improvements include new desks, enlarged science room, updated lighting, and a strong library expansion.
Miss Edna and Connie Buchan return after two weeks with Uncle E L Rickard of Olive Branch Mississippi. Dale Buchanan visits sister Mrs Jeff Palmtree of Central Academy Mississippi this week. W R Rayburn of Sardis guests of Miss Rikard Sunday. Milton Mills of Burgess visits Miss Burdie Rikard. T D Rikard hosts Everett Shepard Steve Waits and Owen Conner. Lon Weaver and Richard Weaver visit Como Mississippi. Richard Perkins visits Mr and Mrs P B Mathis for the weekend.
Notice announces the Clyde Huggins Grist Mill now open at John Butler’s storehouse on North Street and invites business. It also promotes Ford as the people’s candidate for Circuit Judge, urging September 5 voting for clean government and noting Ford’s prosecutions of liquor-law violators.
Dr. Tom M Stowers of Jackson Tennessee died at home Tuesday after a two week heart illness. His remains were brought to Oxford and the funeral held Wednesday afternoon at 50 o'clock at South Street Presbyterian Church. Interment followed at St Peters Cemetery. He was about 60, never married, survived by his brother F M Stowers of Oxford and two sisters Mrs M A Jones of Colorado Springs and Mrs N J Wilbourn of Memphis. He practiced dentistry in Jackson for over twenty years.
Annual all day singing set for the second Sunday the 10th of September invites all singers from county classes. Leaders secured, good roads to the church, spring water for refreshment, and baskets urged for a hearty gathering.
Mr. Ford advocates for a fair, square, and honest vote by the people in the Circuit Judge race. He appeals to voters to uphold integrity and transparency in the election process.
The Pennsylvania Railway bridge at Wilmington, Delaware, was dynamited just before the last Express. All trains are flagged and a police cordon was set to prevent further damage. Mr. Ford appears assured for the Sept 5 judicial election by district voters.

Various others travel or visit family in Oxford, Clarksdale, Pontotoc, and nearby towns. Several local events include a tonsil removal, a 6 o'clock dinner for Miss Gladys Ray Robinson’s guest, and a Christian Endeavor Society picnic at Camp Ground returning by moonlight.
Mr Wilfred F Golladay and Miss Wilma Wallace surprised friends with a Wednesday night request at Rev Mitchells home for a marriage at South Street Presbyterian Church. The couple, esteemed as a young business man and a charming local lady, receive best wishes for their life together.
In the Eagle on August 24 a signature by J H Ford carried an error in a voters card to Lafayette County. The lead over the opponent was misstated as five to seven thousand votes instead of five to seven hundred. The error stemmed from early telephone estimates from Pegram and was corrected the next day by editor G W Price.
Residents and visitors from Oxford and nearby towns populate the week with guests at homes in Etta Memphis and Lambert. Teachers, students, and ministers travel for sessions, holidays, and church services as Rev. Mitchell and Rev. Jaco lead gatherings.
Lawyer Thomas E. Pegram, challenger to Ford, cites Tippah County State Docket showing no indictments or arrests for liquor law violations in eight years. He notes only two 1919 Beef Wine and Iron cases, one inherited by kin and the other not pressed in circuit court. Advertisement.
Local church services and guest visits span Blue Mountain as Rev. Fred Warner aids at Lowrey Memorial Baptist. Visitors include Mrs. Hunt of Portland Oregon and Mrs. DeShon from Water Valley. Travelers report returns from Greenwood, Jackson, and Memphis with several family and church events noted.
An advertisement urges voting for J. H. Ford as a judge who will enforce all laws as written. The message promotes Ford as the lawful choice without offering additional context or endorsements.
Hamlin Graham aged 91 and a former Confederate veteran from Lafayette County died at a local hospital Tuesday afternoon. His home was near Abbeville.
The Priscilla Club held its monthly gathering on the lawn of Mrs. E H Harris near Altus eight miles from Oxford. An enjoyable afternoon was spent and refreshments were served by the hostess.
Mr. Ford is the sole candidate asserting he will devote all time to the judge's duties if elected and will have no other business that could interfere with office responsibilities in Washington State.
