The Mississippi State Board of Optometry warns druggists and merchants about breaches of the 1920 law governing spectacles and eye glasses. The measure prohibits practicing optometry or claiming to determine eye needs. physicians are exempt if licensed. Violators face misdemeanor charges with fines up to five hundred dollars for first offenses and higher penalties for subsequent offenses.
The text urges dentists and optometrists to cease illegal lens duplications and improper lens fittings under the new state license rules, warning of prosecution. It notes that 1915 sees the creation of the Office of Home Economies within the Agriculture Department to aid women, with a woman chief to oversee the new bureau and participate in weekly Secretary’s conferences.

Assistant Secretary Pugsley echoed the plan before the American Home Economics Association at Corvallis Oregon. The move aims to make home economics an independent bureau within the department.
