Jackson scene reports a black mail carrier named Reed arrested on a theft charge after a decoy letter containing twelve dollars was used to trap him. Reed, on the supernumerary list, denied charges. bail set at five hundred dollars.
Robert L. Hall reports that of 322 assessment letters mailed, 300 banks replied with prompt checks, funds to the treasury awaiting audit counter sign. Examiners expected to begin on-site inspections around the start of next month. Meanwhile Hattiesburg officials face heavy clerical work under the new liquor law with 420 consignments in ten days and a peak of 158 shipments from a Southern Express agent. Jefferson County merchant Thomas Harriston files for bankruptcy with schedules.
An important Mississippi consistory meeting was held at Meridian Tuesday night. Plans for the administration of the Scottish Rite cathedral were discussed. A rural telephone system was recently completed at Coldwater by Adrian Burford of Independence. Washington is expected to appear before the senate subcommittee.

Two hundred fifty American refugees entrained at Mexico City will be allowed by Gen Huerta to pass to Vera Cruz with Brig. Gen. Gustavo Maas arranging their transfer beyond Soledad station. British Minister Sir Lionel Carden reports the plan, bringing relief to anxious relatives inside American lines.
In Mexico City Gen Vic toriano Huerta declares he will not resign and will fight to keep power. American observers fear a guerrilla war led by Huerta with figures like Emiliano Zapata aligning against the government and possible U.S. intervention.
