In Minn on April 21 an electric car on the Kansas City railway suddenly filled with blinding smoke and sulfur while south bound. The vehicle stopped and caught fire but no injuries were reported though the car was badly damaged. In Pa on April 23 deputies and a large posse clashed at Adelaide with injuries on both sides amid a civil disturbance involving Company C.
Police believe Jack the Ripper has come to New York after a brutal hotel murder in Water Street. A woman identified as Carrie Brown, known as Shakespeare, is found at a grim house on Catherine and Market streets with her abdomen ripped and viscera exposed. Police, aided by detectives and witnesses, track suspects across downtown lodgings as a cross-marked knife wound and similar patterns draw comparisons to Whitechapel killings.
The Millsaps College location committee chose a seventy acre site donated by former State Treasurer Hemingway. The sale included land and a residence for ten dollars, with building plans to begin after final approval by the North Mississippi Conference and Colonel Hemingway’s family to relocate.
