In Saxe Lieutenant Lyvy New York April 1 Deputy Warren Connaughton reported guard Leander Lee found bloodied and bound after convicts Kelly and Feeney assaulted him and escaped with keeper clothes. They were captured later near the woods leading toward New York City. Feeney serves ten years. Kelly twenty years. Lee injured but recovering.
A sorrowful dawn witnessed the passing of Congress man Samuel J. Randall at his Capital Hill residence. Family members and doctors, including Postmaster-General Wanamaker, kept vigil through the night as Randall, after a final hopeful day, sank quietly at 5 o clock with his wife and daughter near. He spoke the word mother before dying, his end attributed to exhaustion and a long illness.
The Pan American Conference discusses a general welfare report urging arbitration as a principle of international law for disputes involving boundaries treaties navigation and other matters. The treaty outlines arbitration rules, appointment of arbitrators, umpire selection, costs, and a twenty year duration with renewal terms. The report also notes a fire devastating Yelvington Kentucky, destroying eleven business and many dwellings with substantial losses.
A string of powerful storms struck Sharon township and surrounding areas including Akron, destroying houses, farms, crops, and stock. Dozens injured or killed as tornado like winds leveled buildings. rescue parties searched wreckage while residents sheltered in cellars.

Phelan cites Atlanta liabilities of fifty thousand to sixty thousand with no assets. The Southern Sportsmen Association pushes deer protection amid flood driven displacement and offers a reward. Brewer a black labor agent is convicted in Columbus Mississippi for unlawfully interfering with contract labor and fined one hundred dollars unable to pay and jailed. Tas McAlister Company of Florence Alabama assigns with ten thousand liabilities unknown assets. State Treasurer Apche was admitted to bail at twenty five thousand. Betsy Cox aged 130 dies in Greenville South Carolina. Fire hits John T Branham’s barn in Gallatin Tennessee burning six fine horses. Nashville penitentiary reports convicts leaving at night in citizen clothes and serving nearby as household help.

In New York on April 11 one of the citys largest building trades strikes was declared by the board of walking delegates to support the House Smiths Union against Pulsen & Bear, who had signed but then refused to abide by union rules. Some fourteen hundred workers across trades including horse-smiths plumbers gas-fitters carpenters and others refused to resume work at one oclock on projects run by Paulsen & Eger.
A Dubuque dispatch states President R E Graves and Cashier B S Harris of the Commercial National Bank are indicted by a U S grand jury. The charges include a seven thousand dollar overdraft and falsified bank statements claiming assets were worthless.
Lospax April 12 The formal opening of New Tipperary the Irish town created by tenants evicted from the Smith Barry estate is postponed to finish key buildings Eighty residences are finished and several shops are being set up The market is completed and set to open today with elaborate preparations and the building decorated with evergreens and flowers.
A Crestline dispatch reports Miss Campbell daughter of Seward I Campbell left home to visit friends in Berea. She and a hotel waiter vanished. both reportedly went to Cleveland and married. Mrs Campbell distraught as details emerge from a letter claiming they wed in Cleveland and will reside there.
A Faulkeston Sky report says Eckhard, believed to have killed his family, was found dead on a neighbor's farm two miles south of the crime scene. Sheriff coroner and many citizens investigate Freeman's farm while the dead man's family may be taken into custody amid doubts about their account.
