Hon H Clay Sharkey reports a June reunion in Jackson with a parade featuring cavalry veterans mounted for the cornerstone ceremony of the new State house. Farmers in Hinds County urged to loan horses with saddles and bridles. many veterans expected, including state governors and National Guard officers.
The State Board of Pharmaceutical Examiners finished work in Jackson last week but did not announce exam results. Papers were taken home to be graded and forwarded to Secretary S. L. Crane of Columbus for final announcement later.
Governor names about 300 delegates to the Sugar Growers' Convention to be held in Macon Georgia on May 6 7 and 8. The event is expected to attract many representative sugar growers from the Southern States.
F. M. Payne a Tupelo cotton mill employee about 60 years old was fatally struck by Mobile and Ohio passenger train No. 1 southbound while traveling to Saltillo last week. He leaves a wife and seven children.
Last week the commission ordered the Southern railroad and the Mobile and Ohio Railroad Company to furnish manufacturers in Corinth with any special tariffs they set from Corinth to points in Mississippi.
In a Winterville area near Greenville last week a Chinese man named Walter was shot twice in the head by a Black man named Will Kimbrough over a five cent cheese dispute. The slayer fled the scene.
Annie Rutherford a colored woman aged 121 died last week in Potts Camp. She retained her faculties and was a 100 year member of the Baptist Church admired by white and black alike. The Holly Springs Preachers' Association began a census of whites to guide Sunday school work. Gov Longino commuted Dave Logan's death sentence to life imprisonment. Logan, a Black man, was to be hanged at Holly Springs on April 10 for murder.
Five new rural free delivery routes were added in Clay County expanding service to the more populated areas. The improvement suggests Clay County now likely has more free delivery routes than any other county in the state.
The Clarke county bar gathered in Quitman last week to honor Justice Samuel H. Terrell with a memorial meeting. Prominent members delivered eulogies on his life and character, followed by read and adopted resolutions.
Four year old Eugene Quarles Jr. son of William Quarles Jr. a Charleston Bank cashier, was severely wounded when a knife he held pierced his face above the eye and reached the brain. Dr. T B Harrison says recovery is possible if no complications arise. Separately Aberdeen moves forward on a pants and clothing factory with $60,000 capitalization, charter to be filed and construction to begin soon.
Washington reports that James M. Beck tendered his resignation to President Roosevelt before the president’s westward trip. Roosevelt accepted it in a March 31 letter, effective April 30. Beck will join Sherman and Sterling in New York City starting May 1 and become a resident there.
Col J E MacGowan longtime editor in chief of the Chattanooga Times died at his Missionary Ridge home after a bout with la grippe and complicating illnesses. Born September 30 1831 in Ohio he began law practice in Iowa before entering journalism in 1872 as associate editor of the Times and became editor in 1878 serving until two months before his death.
Washington officials announce a careful inquiry into charges that wagon manufacturers received advance knowledge of rural free delivery route estimates. Post office inspectors will examine the matter and enforce rules prohibiting disclosure under penalty of dismissal.
Washington reports St Louis will host a Wild West show with the Louisiana Purchase expo exhibit. An extra 60 000 dollars is added to the 340 200 government funding to showcase spectacular features, including tribes from the Louisiana Purchase area. Berlin dispatch reported by World Paris correspondent says Crown Princess Louise and Crown Prince Andre Giron will be reconciled next week. They plan remarriage at Salabourg to strengthen the dynasty and their children. A Salzburg dispatch confirms the reconciliation.
In Buffalo on April 12 the Pennell inquest read the dead lawyer’s final assertion of innocence in the Burdick murder. Judge Murphy found the theory that Pennell died by his own hand had not been established.
Word from Minister Allen in Seoul reports the coronation celebration in Corea has been postponed until autumn, as received by cable at the state department in Washington on April 12.

It includes numerous individuals across multiple precincts and references the state law authorizing the list, sworn by Sheriff John R. Hoskins and Chancery Clerk Rh. P. Gray on March 1, 1908.

A noon cloud burst floods Clark county Indiana washing away a buggy as County Commissioner Raymond and his wife drown crossing Blue Lick creek after church. Both bodies are recovered as floodwaters extend toward Sellersburg and Seymour.
