Oxford residents form an Overalls Club to wear work wear until wool prices drop. About 115 men and boys pledge to wear overalls or cottonade trousers, with women preparing similar casual wear. Signatories include G. D. Hale, E. E. Temple, Lee Baggett, C. E. Sisk and many others as a communal effort for thrift.
Ole Miss defeats Millsaps twice on campus in slow games. In game one Henderson dominated for Ole Miss as Millsaps managed only three hits. Barbour Went 3 for 3 with Ole Miss using many pitchers as the scrubs closed out the final innings. In game two Bagwell and Barbour sparked Ole Miss late scoring in the seventh and eighth to pull away. Wood led Millsaps with three hits, while Haworth and Long provided early sparks.
College Hill beat Oxford 9 to 8 after a rough start in the first inning. Price pitched for Oxford allowing only three more hits after the opening frame as Tate and Parks starred for Oxford despite 14 scattered hits.
A L Downing returns to lead Oxford's light and power plant replacing Hull. He is a noted electrician who has been in Memphis for four years. Since his departure, service has troubled both domestic users and motor operators. The city hopes for restored reliable power soon.
In Jefferson County Mississippi a test oil and gas well near Truly Lake has a tangled history. A local company led by Judge Jeff Truly drilled to 2575 feet then abandoned. Questions arise over a 127 foot reporting gap and secrecy by the first driller. Dallas driller Mr Green and Imperial Production Co with J T Craig push to secure leases and begin a new drill with a $5000 escrow for derrick and drilling costs.
The Mississippi College Glee Club will give a recital at the school house Tuesday evening at 8 o clock on April 20. The event, arranged with Supt. Hudson and Mr. Hugh Wiley, will raise funds for the school with all excess proceeds aiding the institution. The club features J G Lewis W A Keel H C Ball and others with a mixed quartet and notable solo performances highlighted by Mrs. Stella B and Mrs. M a accompanist. The program includes sketches by the Tinnin brothers and several attractive songs sung by the group and soloists.
A mass meeting at the court house formed The Community Betterment Association to improve Oxford daily. May or Temple led the gathering as temporary chair. R L Tomlinson named permanent president with Miss Ella Wright as vice president and E O Davidson as secretary. A general cleanup day was set for April 22, with refuse removal arranged by city officials and future street cleanup schedules planned. A constitution and by laws committee was appointed to report at the Thursday night meeting.
Friends of Drs Bramlett and Bramlett hosted a linen shower at the hospital’s opening last Thursday. Over 35 donors contributed linens glassware trays and water sets for the institution which has just expanded to a larger capacity. More than 100 visitors toured the facility and refreshments were served as locals praised the project and its leaders.
The report notes a first well drilled and suggests the 127 feet between 1,178 feet and 1,305 feet may confirm an oil discovery. If the accuracy holds, Jefferson County could soon bring in an oil well.

The Lafayette County drive to raise seventy five dollars for the battlefield monument fund concluded with subscriptions totaling seventy eight dollars from town children and citizens. University students added thirty eight dollars bringing county total to one hundred sixteen dollars.

He toured southern colleges to gauge research facilities and potential collaborations, noting Ole Miss’s heavy teaching load limits on original research. He stayed with Dr. J. N. Swan.
