A letter from Mrs. T. W. Barro urges local women to support soldiers on the firing line through a fundraising society. She appeals for women to contribute in kind and money while men handle the money side, promising the effort will aid the troops and reflect pioneer hardship.
A wartime plea urges Canadian women to knit warm underclothes socks and balaclava helmets for soldiers in Europe. Donations should arrive by early November through the St. John Ambulance Association with explicit sock patterns and wool requirements.
The Ox bow town council held a Friday evening session with Mayor Fraser presiding. Councillors Noble McCay Burmeister Mills and Hurst attended as accounts were approved and paid. A C P R correspondence on dam plans was tabled and ratified by mayor and secretary. The rink committee reported damage from rifle shots to the rink building and was directed to take drastic measures against any culprit.
The town keeps the same overall tax rate for town purposes as last year while public improvement costs rise to about $1500. High and Public school taxes jump by about 1.5 mills due to higher school spending and reduced government grants. The council plans graveling Railway avenue from Shaw's corner west before adjourning.

Miss Susan Pate of Carberry Manitoba attended the funeral of her brother Henry Pate on Sunday and returned home on Monday morning by the train.
