Ontario Premier Sir James Whitney dies suddenly in Toronto

Sir James Whitney premier of Ontario since 1905 dies at his Toronto home after a brief illness. He opened his eyes, smiled to his wife and daughter, then died. Funeral held at St James Cathedral, Morrisburg interment followed. He led the Conservative party in Ontario and shaped provincial government through years of minority and majority rule.

Ladies Day At Oxbow Millinery Display

Saturday September 26 marked Ladies Day in Oxbow with the annual fall millinery display at Miss Matheson s parlors in McCay block. She and her assistants Miss Carley and Miss Foreman were kept busy throughout the day and into the evening.

New Hat Styles Highlight Velvet Plush and Varied Trims

In the late evening crowd of shoppers, the newest hat designs attract attention. Canotier in variegated white plush with black irror velvet trim contrasts with a gilt bouquet and white osprey. American sailor hat in black satin features metallic foliage and roses. Russian green plush visor shape carries Cassowary detail and pink velvet rose. New shades include Russian green, marine blue, new blue and citron. Velvets and plushes dominate while beavers and felts appear. Small hats crown the fashion with high feather ribbon trims and floral accents for fall.

Successful Bazaar At Presbyterian Church Sale

The Presbyterian church ladies hosted a Friday bazaar decorated with bunting and flowers. Tables displayed goods with a fairy land feel while young ladies sold items. The fishpond drew crowds with many catches and refreshments were served Cafeteria style, leaving attendees happy and satisfied at the end.
