Exciting Foot Race Fizzles After Tumble

Lewis Franklin Button and Chris Olsen raced from Button's corner to the Outlook Realty office with Remington Walker as timekeeper. They tangled near the end when Chris fell dragging Button down. both crossed the line simultaneously, injuries reported, bets void, race not rerun.

Fertile Valley Council in 1918 Meeting Addresses Roads and School Districts

A June 4 1918 Fertile Valley No 285 council meeting discusses approving minutes and guaranteeing compensation for road blind lines between sections 1 12 28 09 and 1 19 28 90 West 3rd and surveying the same. It includes transferring Decorah school district boundaries and authorizing a road grader purchase from Sherwood. Efforts to secure sugar for the canning season are noted alongside Canada Fort Board sugar restriction comments. Reeve Sibbald and six councillors attended.
