Paris reports the press expects a strong Bonapartist effort in the upcoming supplementary elections. The Journal Viel de Paris says the imperial prince will be put forward as a candidate for the assembly. The Cloche predicts urban results will curb monarchist tendencies.
Advices from London state the queen will ratify the treaty of Washington this week. Parliament debate on the treaty will not reach a division as Disraeli and Lord Northcote back it from the opposition. A parliamentary vote will not affect ratification, which rests with her majesty.
The Senate and House met in Joint Convention and after filling vacancies in the senate, balloted for Governor with Jas A Weston 167 votes and Jas Pike 159. Legislature will adjourn until Tuesday when Weston will be qualified. Fires in Lowell Potsdam Coldspring Cincinnati and McGregor destroyed property worth 165000 and 190000. A Galveston storm on the 13th damaged telegraphs railroads buildings and shipping with 60 mph winds.
