Police Court outcomes for Randall and Darner in court

Waterloo approves $525000 waterworks bond plan

At a May 31 special election in Waterloo Iowa the city carried a bond proposal of 525000 to buy the waterworks and extend service by a 1536 vote margin. Women voters totaled 1513 with 1036 for municipal ownership and 457 against. men voted 1826 for and 869 against. There were 2 and 35 defective ballots respectively.

Clinton, May 31. Constable Duncan reports Billy Sunday wrecked Muscatine by leaving town. He claims 32 saloons near $300 yearly licenses closed, yet 107 liquor licenses granted bring no revenue. An unusually tame snow white English sparrow has frequented the Wabash passenger depot mornings for several years. Once two birds were seen, likely the only white sparrows in the region, but now only one remains as its mate disappeared. He is the sole candidate in his district and seeks endorsement from the United States Commercial Travelers at Mason City. Five inspectors will cover the state with duties to ensure hotel sanitation, fire escapes compliance, and proper kitchen food grades. Brown is well known among Iowa commercial travelers and active in Knights of Columbus and Elks. Governor Carroll will name the five inspectors, with appointments starting July 1.

Robbers shoot and kill Newhall man in Minn yard

Joseph R. Rood of Newhall Iowa was shot and killed in the Great Western railroad yards at Hampton Minnesota by two robbers who tried to hold him up as he rode a freight train with his brother S B Rood. The assailants ordered them off the train and fired when they did not comply promptly.
