J Wilbur Moore, returning from Lafayette in a hog wagon, faced a severe crash near the Montmorenci overpass when a motorcycle spooked his team and a passing Big Four train added to the danger. Moore suffered a broken collar bone and received care from Dr Leaming as he begins to mend.
Ruth Taylor suffered a deep cut on her foot when a water pitcher she carried into the house broke. Dr Leaming stitched the gash and Ruth is currently up and about and doing well.
Miss Greta Sewell fractured her right collar bone after falling through a hay mow opening at her home while playing with other children. The injury was painful but she is improving satisfactorily.
Peter Gephart fell from a wagon while threshing at Ernest Winkler's Thursday and fractured a rib. The accident left him shaken but not seriously harmed. Nearby activity includes family visits and local movements such as camping plans and travel to Grand Rapids for a pacer race.
A wheat campaign runs in Benton County on August 13 and 14 with speaker Maurice Douglas of Flat Rock Indiana. The program lists meetings at Pine Township Barr Elevator Earl Park York Township Ambia Boswell Oxford and more to persuade farmers to sow wheat this fall. Douglas notes oats yield poorly and argues wheat offers steadier profits.
Benton County Circuit Court warns Bernice McCool non-resident defendant to appear or demur in the October 1914 term or the complaint in Ora McCool v Bernice McCool will be heard in her absence. Clerk Clarence Norquest signs the notice at Fowler.
Mrs. Thos. Brown and her young daughter travel from Elizabethtown Kentucky to visit Mrs. Brown's sister Mrs. John Alvey and family. Effie Bradburn departs for Cincinnati after visiting Mrs. S. E. Thompson and L. E. Collyer and wife.
Mrs Lon Myers and daughter of Hoopeston Ill visited Wm Solomon and Ed Magee. Elmer Foutch and family returned from Sheridan after attending his mother's funeral. Mrs Carl Bower and son of OKirklin visited David Pfeifer and family. Mrs P J Coffey of Danville IL visits Miss Nelle Homing. Big sale at Maxwell's.
A Smith family reunion at Trail last Wednesday brought together Dr W A Smith of Otterbein Indiana his four brothers three sisters and two half brothers with spouses and relatives from Newark Chalmers and beyond. They enjoyed a noon dinner. Dr Smith served as toastmaster and officers were elected for the coming year. A poem by Mrs W A Smith honored the occasion.
A threshers gathering was held Wednesday evening at Gus Sanbloom's residence on the 29th of July. Ladies and children enjoyed an afternoon of ice cream and cake while the men conducted their meeting. Families of Gus Sanbloom, Chas McFar, Chas White, Fred Kirkhoff, Web Hamill, Chas German, Chester Larabee, Francis Smith, Harry Ruch, Mrs. Jennie Shotts, Cuppy, Jas Mother, John Timmons, Doc Stevens, Charles Birdage, Henry Taylor, Jean Cadwallader, Jacob Reiders, James Gardner, Oscar Colson, Ruth Mathers, Laura Balkema, and Elia Reiners were present.
William Otterbein again breaks a world record with a 2.00-second heat at Grand Rapids. Spectators praised his effort, and supporters warned his growing fame could affect his demeanor as he aims higher.
The United Brethren church announces an evening service at 7.45 led by Rev. ID. Robinson who holds the Bible Chair at Indiana Central University Indianapolis. A communion service follows and the public is invited. W. B. Taylor Pastor.

The Otterbein Sun reports the second count results for the piano contest with Miss Reba Peters winning $10 on the second count and Mrs. Asher Dilts receiving $5. An extra vote count is set for August 24 and the final count on September 16 with a $10 gold prize for the contestant with the most votes between counts two and three.
The Clerk of the Circuit Court of Benton County Indiana appoints Eliza J. Young administratrix of the estate of Richard S. Young, deceased. The estate is alleged to be insolvent. Saunderson and Hawkins attorney for the administratrix dated July 14 1914.
John R. Opp, confined at St. Vincent hospital Indiana polis, reports receiving 75 cards for his birthday last Wednesday. He plans a card album on return to Otterbein and hopes to be home around the 15th, saying the hospital is nice but he would rather be well at Otterbein.
Postmaster lists uncalled letters dated August 6 1914 for Alfred Moore Tom McNary Reverend E B Slade at the local office. If not collected by August 20 they will be sent to the dead letter office. Please mention advertised when inquiring.
Auto loads moved to rout a gypsy camp near Ern Gep hart schoolhouse after a recent violent incident near Goshen. Otterbein volunteers arrived prompting a retreat to headquarters as reinforcements proved unnecessary. The Town Fool review touts entertainment value and a post card drive by Ruth Circle for Castle U B church. Rev A W Smith traveled to Reynolds then N Liberty to join his wife ahead of Camp Meeting. West Point visit for Clement family includes extended stay for Mrs Anderson and children. Otterbein August 18th.
