West Coast Ports Shut in West Coast Lockout
Port workers were ordered off the docks in a second lockout that could cost the U S economy up to a billion dollars daily. The Pacific Maritime Association and International Longshore and Warehouse Union face off over benefits pensions and handling technology. Port activity halted with ships idle and supply chains at risk, affecting Hawaii and national production. Negotiations resume in San Francisco amid federal mediation efforts as talks continue.

Baldwin Lumber to close after 90 years in Baldwin City
Baldwin City Lumber Co will close in October after 90 years in business. Owner Michael Swan says the store’s last day is uncertain, but most merchandise will be sold off by month’s end. The three-employee shop blames competition from home centers and contractor suppliers for the closure, leaving Baldwin City without a lumberyard for about 3,500 residents.
