United Way 2019 kicks off with coffee and theater
United Way of Franklin County opened its 2019 fundraising with the United Way Chamber Coffee 2019 Campaign Kick-off at Bank Midwest Ottawa. Meg Pearson urged donating what you spend on coffee to fund a Mystery Event dinner theater October 26 and brunch theater October 27. The goal is $170,000 to fund direct services for Franklin County residents with support from local officials.

Light House Opens in Former Casey's Store in Pomona
Pastor Kim Wilcox leads North Baptist Church members to transform the boarded up Casey's General Store at 135 E. Franklin into The Light House. After purchasing in November 2017 the building was gutted and renovated with ADA accessible entrances and new interior, and the grand opening occurred in July.

Ottawa Coop worker honored for Guard service Patriots Award nomination
Colt Hoffman, a grain elevator operator at Ottawa Coop in Scranton Kansas, served six months overseas with the Air National Guard. Supervisors stayed in touch during deployment and Hoffman nominated his employers for the Patriots Award, presenting it at the Scranton location as recognition for support to citizen soldiers.
