Lawrence approves gender identity ordinance
The Lawrence City Commission voted 4-1 to add gender identity to the anti discrimination code, making it illegal for employers landlords and many businesses to discriminate against transgender people. The measure drew a divided crowd and support from city leaders who called it a stand against discrimination while opponents argued it condoned a lifestyle.
