Hawthorne Students Fund War Jeep in Schools at War Drive
Amid World War II efforts, Hawthorne Elementary joined the national Schools at War program. Students, teachers, and parents contributed to war bonds and stamps, with Hawthorne reportedly raising enough to purchase a jeep and surpassing the $900 goal. Scrap drives, gardens, and wartime tasks filled student activities.
