Day at the Farm leads October school events
Nearly 400 Franklin County third graders will tour Day at the Farm on October 1 to learn agriculture’s role. Agri-Business Committee and Sylvester Ranch present a key program. Leadership class begins with 17 new leaders meeting monthly through March. Community Fall Cleanup Day urged residents to remove yard trash. A Kansas Small Business Development Center seminar is set for October 10 at 6 p.m., with RSVP by noon. Ottawa celebrates antique engines and river run weekend
Special Appreciation notes Ottawa Franklin County events drawing large crowds. The Power of the Past Antique Engine Show and OP Marais River Run attracted over 1,000 vehicles and tens of thousands of visitors. Officials expect greater turnout next year with the Vietnam War Memorial Wall touring in October. Community leaders thank organizers for boosting the local economy.

Franklin County plan update moves forward with public input
The Ottawa area chamber reports progress on the Franklin County Strategic Plan update. After meetings in Pomona Wellsville Richmond and Ottawa top concerns are fire protection rural water jobs housing and land use. The plan moves to draft form then public presentation before review by county and city commissioners and submission to the Kansas Department of Commerce and Industry. Annual meeting at Prairie Star Ranch drew 70 plus members with Tom Leitaker Larry Felix and Tom Weigand elected to top positions. New directors Dave Rossman Earl Devore and Jerry Thompson join. Dale Dieterich and Sonny Burch retire. Ann Clark and Jean Park rejoin the chamber.
