Chiefs Struggle Through Sluggish Preseason Under Vermeil

Kansas City coach Dick Vermeil admitted the 0-2 Chiefs looked stronger in earlier exhibitions than in losses to Oakland and the Giants. Injuries and thin depth at wide receiver hinder the offense, with Snoop Minnis doubtful for Washington and Derrick Alexander possibly out again. The team weighs added running plays and calls for veteran help, while sticking to a persistent game plan.

Washington cuts George after lackluster start

Washington Redskins severed quarterback Jeff George after two winless games with no touchdowns and a 34.6 rating. The team, 0-2, has been outscored 67-3, with Banks scoring the opener’s lone points. George, No. 1 pick in 1990, faced controversy and a strained fit with Marty Schottenheimer’s West Coast offense.
