Plant Inhibitor Improves Pasture Quality
Kansas State University researchers led by Gene Francis found that applying mefluidide Embark to tall fescue, chardgrass, and smooth bromegrass delays maturity and suppresses seed heads. In trials, treated pastures increased steer gains by 43 pounds per head and raised crude protein from 9.27% to 12.42% in biome, with gains of 130–133 pounds per head in later tests. Estimated cost is $11–$12 per acre. potential returns exceed costs if used biennially.
