Wolf ready for Mir mission despite risks and criticism
Astronaut David Wolf, 41, says he is completely comfortable with a four month stay on Russia's Mir space station. He trained six years as an American astronaut and one year as a cosmonaut in Russia, and will depart aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis with supplies to join Mir. The mission, part of a NASA Russia exchange program, aims to bolster the future international space station, with Wolf as the sixth American to live on Mir.

NASA weighs sending astronaut David Wolf to Mir for four months amid political pressure and aging hardware. A decision by Daniel Goldin could delay or proceed with Atlantis to deliver Wolf or return Michael Foale. The stalemate hinges on safety reports and U.S.-Russia space policy.
