Senate Favors Cutting Aid To UN
The Senate approved a nearly half cut in U.S. payments to the United Nations by 66-23 with broad GOP support despite White House opposition. The plan would shrink funding by about 500 million over four years, reducing U.S. share from 25 percent of the UN budget. By 1987 the payment would drop to 200 million from 363 million projected for 1984.

Gulf Air Boeing 737 crashes near Abu Dhabi
A Gulf Air Boeing 737 crashed in the mountains 30 miles northeast of Abu Dhabi airport during a Karachi to Dubai flight via Doha. All 112 passengers and crew are dead. Dubai airport sources say the plane caught fire in midair. WAM says the aircraft was burning and all occupants perished.
