Franklin County Jail reports 10:09 a.m. Tuesday arrest of Michael P. Slifer 20 Ottawa on disorderly conduct at Burroughs Street. At 12:30 p.m. Tuesday Daniel F. Hawkins 51 Ottawa faced multiple charges including parking in a handicapped zone no dog vaccination and no city dog registration. At 9:25 p.m. Tuesday Renee M. Cook 30 Chanute was arrested on a Johnson County failure to appear warrant. At 2:28 a.m. Wednesday Keith L. Church 38 Ottawa was arrested after an argument led to a firearm discharge and street sign damage.
Police reports document multiple theft and vandalism incidents in Ottawa. Victims include a 72 year old woman on South Locust and a 33 year old on South Willow, with unknown suspects. Several vehicle accidents are noted on East 23rd, South Cedar, South Beech, Eisenhower Road, Main Street, and Walnut Street with citations for inattentive or unsafe driving and DUI suspicions.
Police log records incidents across Wellsville streets including a non-injury accident on Walnut Street and arrests on West Sixth and Main Streets. Public assists, a Douglas County warrant arrest, a parking complaint, animal control call, medical emergency, and various public assistance actions are noted across Main Street and adjacent blocks Friday through Monday.
At 3 24 p m Saturday the Ottawa Fire Department responded to a gas leak at 1166 North Sycamore Street. Firefighters secured the scene and checked for hazardous conditions while maintaining public safety.
Doris I Bones Shannon 83 of Bowling Green died Sept 18 2011 in a local nursing home. Preceded in death by husband Dr David Shannon and parents Roy and Helen Bones and brothers Bill Wayne Lester. Visitation Sept 24 at J C Kirby Lovers Lane Chapel with graveside service at Bowling Green Gardens. Survived by four sons and seven grandchildren with spouses. Ottawa wins a 250000 dollar Kansas Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School grant to fund sidewalks on Ash Street from Ninth to 11th, Osage Drive to 15th, Cherry Street to the Lincoln Elementary path, and 13th Street to Garfield Elementary. The city will cover about 61600 dollars, mainly for staff time and design while KDOT handles construction bids. A separate 389300 dollar project on 15th Street from Prairie Spirit Trail to Eisenhower Avenue is funded with another KDOT grant, with the city contributing 115200 dollars in admin and construction fees. Kansas authorities report a tenth arrest in a central Kansas probe of potpourri, a marijuana like drug manufactured near Denver and brought to Salina. The case, investigated by a regional drug task force, the KBI and Salina police, yielded nearly two pounds of the substance valued at about 20 thousand dollars, with one former Salina retailer among last week’s detainees awaiting sentencing.

Louis Reed reports the Ottawa fairgrounds drew over 5 000 attendees by 3 pm with 3 500 single admissions and 300 children at one gate and 1 247 adults plus 79 children at the other, totaling 1 243.60 dollars in receipts. Gate activity continued as people arrived.
