Couple retrace 1893 Cherokee Outlet land quest by horse and buggy

Paul and Fran Michael of Richmond take a 130 mile horse and buggy trek from Central Kansas to Deer Creek Oklahoma to honor ancestors who sought land when President Cleveland opened the Cherokee Outlet in 1893. The journey mirrors their forebears as they chase 160 acre homesteads during a 105 degree September.

Graves seeks to halt Army plan on drought reservoirs

Gov. Bill Graves urged the U S Army Corps of Engineers to stop releasing 6 feet of water from Milford Turtle Creek and Perry reservoirs to raise Missouri River water levels. He warned drought stricken farms towns marinas and wildlife habitats would suffer and that conservation water in Milford could be lost if levels drop.

Wellsville Harvest Festival kicks off with parade and rodeo

The Wellsville Days Festival is renamed the Wellsville Days Harvest Festival to reduce planning load. The 22nd annual event runs two days with a 5K race, one mile fun run, parade led by grand marshals Bob and Barbara Kiefer, parade judging, helicopter rides, music on Main Street, a draft horse pull, and family activities across town.
