California to vote on ending electric deregulation plan
California's Public Utilities Commission is poised to vote on ending energy deregulation. The move would restore state control with a governor led system, a new public power authority, and three struggling utilities, potentially cutting consumer choice and preventing power purchases from retailers such as Green Mountain Energy and Enron. Rolling blackouts, high bills, and debt totaling over $14 billion plagued utilities like PG&E, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas & Electric as DW PWR purchases rose.
