Bad Year For Crops Means Higher Prices
Washington AP report cites Agriculture Department economist Howard Hjort forecasting higher food costs in 1979 as a bad crop year raises grocery bills. He says inflation will push family expenditures up by about 6.15 weekly, with meat and dairy shortages potentially adding 2.75 more, on top of a 6.21 rise this year. He notes weather, production issues, and sugar policy as key factors shaping prices.
