Memorial auditorium to host Heart of America Bantam Club show
The Merce board of directors voted to cooperate with the Heart of America Bantam Club for its annual show on December 14 and 15. The Ottawa chamber will underwrite the rental cost of Memorial Auditorium where the event will be held. Paul Roberts, secretary, and Russell Nordyke, club member, met with the board today.

Max Likes of 1140 Walnut Ottawa was arrested yesterday on a warrant from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office and pleaded innocent in Douglas County Court this morning to a charge of statutory rape. Judge Charles Rankin set trial for September 24 at 10 a.m. and ordered Likes jailed in default of a $1500 bond. He is accused of raping a 15 year old Ottawa girl on March 8 in Douglas County.

California gains seats as New York loses in reapportionment

Blind Students To Get Plane Ride In Kansas City
Thirty students from the Kansas School for the Blind will fly to Topeka with Trans World Airlines as part of an Aviation Day program arranged by fourth grade teacher Mrs. Gerald Foster. Ottawa High Seniors To Take Merit Tests
Forty five Ottawa High School seniors have paid the $1 registration fee to take the Merit Scholarship Corp qualifying tests scheduled for Oct 22. The corporation estimates about 225,000 U S high school seniors will take the test this year. Last year 162,000 seniors took the test, including 26 from Ottawa. The tests are used by the National Merit Scholarship Corp and other sponsors to determine educational aid recipients.
