Franklin County reports adequate dental care despite statewide shortages
A Kansas Department of Health and Environment report warns rural areas will face a serious dental shortage in the next three to five years. Franklin County, near Kansas City, is not on the shortage list and dentists like Richard Hale in Ottawa say local access remains strong while western Kansas areas struggle. The KDHE study notes shortages will affect many small communities and emphasizes the need for recruitment and retention of dentists and hygienists. The authors will present findings at a Wichita hotel during the Kansas Public Health Association Conference.
